Description: A Brookside landmark and much-loved “general store,” The New Dime Store is a welcomed antidote to big box retailers. The Dime Store has long been a meeting place for families, friends and neighbors. Fifi Wiedeman, lovingly renovated and updated this nostalgic neighborhood icon, first opened in 1940 by Levin Lanning and operated until 2002 by Earnest and Bob Arfsten. Anyone in the neighborhood over 7 years old has warm memories of The Dime Store with its creaky, wooden floors and memorable staff. Now, thankfully, those under 7 will too. Be sure to look for the original “You’re in the Dime Store. Welcome home” sign.
